Schwab Charitable Fund

Type: Donor Advised Fund

Schwab Charitable Fund is a DAF founded in 1999. It has administered $10 billion in grants since its inception across a number of sectors, including international affairs, environmental issues, arts and culture, and religion. Among its thousands of recipients are the University of Chicago, The Salvation Army, the Smithsonian Institution, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

However, from 2014 to 2016, Schwab granted millions of dollars to 18 anti-Muslim groups. Some of the highest receiving grantees include the Middle East Media Research Institute, which received nearly $1.2 million. MEMRI is an Israeli propaganda outfit co-founded by a former Israeli military intelligence officer that provides selective, absurd, and intentionally biased translations of Arabic language news. MEMRI’s Twitter feed is rife with violent portrayals of purported Muslim and Arab hostility towards Israel and the Jewish people.

Other Schwab grantees include the David Horowitz Freedom Center, which received nearly $840,000, and the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting, which received more than $670,000.
