National Christian Charitable Foundation

Type: Faith-Based Donor Advised Fund

The National Christian Charitable Foundation is a DAF that funds a wide swath of Christian churches regardless of denomination, including Protestant, Baptist, Catholic, Episcopal, and Lutheran. It also administers grants to everything from health organizations, like the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association, to social service organizations and other charities, such as the ALS Foundation and the Alzheimer's Association. Averaging a $1 billion annual revenue between 2014 and 2016, the Foundation is the eighth largest charity in the country and a powerful force among civil institutions.

It is also the second largest funder of anti-Muslim hate in America, pouring more than $15 million into the anti-Muslim industry over a three-year period. Grantees between 2014 and 2016 include the American Family Association (AFA), which received the single largest sum at over $13 million and the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), which received nearly $1 million. The AFA is a Religious Right lobbying group that aligns itself with nativist and Islamophobic ideologies. It also uses its radio arm, American Family Radio, to perpetuate misinformation across 33 states. The ACLJ is a law firm led by Jay Sekulow, Donald Trump’s private attorney, that supports anti-Muslim policies and legislation and publishes anti-Muslim propaganda. In 2017 the ACLJ filed a supporting court brief in defense of the Muslim Ban.
