Our Team

Zainab Arain

Arain is an experienced writer and researcher. She compiles data on anti-Muslim incidents and conducts research into anti-Muslim bias in the U.S. Arain has authored articles and reports regarding Islamophobia in the United States across several publications. Her most recent report, "The Empowerment of Hate," detailed anti-Islam bias incidents from 2014-2016. Arain received her master's from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in Islamic Studies. Prior to this, she received her BA in Communication Studies from UCLA and graduated Magna Cum Laude.

Hatem Bazian

Dr. Bazian founded the Center for the Study and Documentation of Islamophobia at UC Berkeley, a research unit dedicated to the systematic study of Othering Islam and Muslims. He currently serves as the editor-in-chief of the Islamophobia Studies Journal. He received his Ph.D. in Philosophy and Islamic Studies from the University of California, Berkeley.
